Innovation System of Gamosa Institution

Creative destruction and mechanisation has led to the exhaustion of the Traditional Cultural Expression of Assam and the regional innovation system. As a result, the traditional knowledge system of xipinie and, the livelihood of rural women is under serious threat. Consequently, infringement of Gamosa artefacts by synthetic yarn ghuni and the revenue leakage was not effectively dealt with by policymakers in Assam. Because there was little research on asserting the sui-generis [13] status of Gamosa institution, its traditional knowledge is confined to museums, heritage connoisseurs, and, customary local institutions. The authors argue for asserting the legitimate rights of Gamosa within the framework of the regional innovation system through statutory provisions and technological intervention in its supply chain. This working paper is a qualitative meta-analysis for policy discussion on the equitable quality education of tacit knowledge, inclusive economic opportunities for rural women, and, partnership for sustainable development of the stakeholders. The ongoing project will create supply chain models for Gamosa artefacts viz., Goxain Kapur, Thapona Kapur, Bihuwan, Dora-Baran, and Tiyoni. Further, the project has achieved documentation on TCE of Gamosa and progressing to understand its intrinsic characteristics of yarn feature, dye techniques, weaving, and the succession of knowledge to the incubation facility comprising of master-xipinie and custodians. The project has strategically created the neologism ‘Ghuni’ for infringed (copycat) Gamosa and started quick-response solutions for authenticity in a block-chain format. The trans-disciplinary vision is to create Gamosa as a global brand
