Study on the responsible management of the supply chain in the garment sector

The objective of this study is to contribute to an ongoing background analysis, building on work already carried out within and outside of the European Commission with respect to engagement in the garment sector to support sustainability in the garment industry. The analysis will essentially serve to assist the Commission in clarifying its ideas and identifying potential focus areas on where added value in the sector can be provided at EU level. The main components of this study are (1) an analysis of social, environmental and economic indicators for different garment producing countries, (2) an overview and characterisation of key sustainability initiatives in the garment sector and (3) an analysis of possible opportunities to make supply chains in the garment sector more responsible.
